What a Celebrity Chef and a Father of 13 Have in Common?

What do a celebrity chef and a man with 13 kids have in common? They’re both fathers who make it a priority to stay fit for themselves and their families.

For many years, I trained a well-known celebrity chef. Despite appearing on several TV shows, running multiple restaurants, and raising three children, he still made time to work out four to five times a week. Why? To relieve stress and stay energized for both his demanding career and his family life.

On the other hand, I also train my Rabbi, who—yes—has 13 children! While running a synagogue with hundreds of members, he still carves out two 30-minute workouts per week. His belief is simple: “The more you put into your day, the more time stretches.”

One of the most common excuses I hear from fathers who want to start a fitness routine is: “I don’t have time.”

But the difference between those who succeed and those who don’t often comes down to their mindset. They see fitness not as a time drain but as something that gives them time.

Why Do Some Fathers Succeed in Staying Fit?

It’s not about having time; it’s about how you view time. Instead of focusing on what you lose, consider what you gain from regular exercise.

What do you gain from exercise? You get:

  • Improved mood
  • Increased confidence
  • Better physical function
  • Higher quality of life
  • Setting a positive example for your children
  • A healthier, more attractive appearance
