3 Strength Exercises to Help You Get Leaner and Stronger
When people ask us what the best exercises are for getting leaner and more toned, they’re often surprised by the answer.
It’s not about doing hundreds of crunches or spending hours on the treadmill. Some of the biggest changes in your body can come from exercises that train multiple muscle groups at once.
These are three staple exercises we use every week at TS Fitness because they help our members build lean muscle, get stronger, and make the most of their time in the gym.
The videos below demonstrate these exercises with kettlebells, but they can be performed just as effectively with dumbbells.
1. Goblet Squat
The goblet squat is one of the best lower-body exercises you can do. It strengthens your glutes, quads, core, and hamstrings while improving mobility and posture. Since it recruits so many muscles at once, it’s an efficient way to build the lean muscle that helps create a stronger, more toned look.
Form Tips
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your toes slightly turned out.
- Lower until your thighs are about parallel to the floor.
- Push through your heels, squeeze your glutes, and tuck your hips underneath as you stand.
- Inhale on the way down and exhale as you stand up.

2. Three Point Stance Row
A strong back can improve posture, reduce aches and pains, and create the balanced upper body many people are looking for. The three-point stance row trains your lats, upper back, rear shoulders, and biceps while teaching your core to stabilize your body.
Form Tips
- Take a staggered stance and support yourself with one hand.
- Brace your core and let the weight hang straight down.
- Pull your elbow toward your hip while squeezing your shoulder blade back.
- Lower with control, allowing the shoulder to reach slightly forward before the next rep.

3. Farmer Deadlift
The farmer deadlift is one of the most effective full-body exercises you can perform. It strengthens your glutes, hamstrings, core, back, and grip while reinforcing proper lifting mechanics you’ll use in everyday life.
Form Tips
- Hold a weight in each hand with your lats engaged.
- Hinge your hips back, keeping your shoulders above your hips and your hips above your knees.
- Lower the weights to about mid-shin while keeping them close to your legs.
- Push through your heels, squeeze your glutes, stand tall, and exhale as you come up.

Why These Three?
At TS Fitness, we prioritize exercises that deliver the greatest return on your time. Together, these movements train nearly every major muscle group, improve functional strength, and allow you to progressively get stronger over time.
Remember, “muscle tone” isn’t created by doing endless high repetitions. It comes from building lean muscle while reducing body fat. The combination of consistent strength training, good nutrition, and progressive overload is what creates lasting changes in your body.
If you’re looking for a program that takes the guesswork out of your workouts and helps you get stronger, leaner, and more confident, we’d love to help.
