How to Choose the Best Personal Trainer in NYC: A Guide

1. Look at Experience — Real Experience

A weekend cert doesn’t make a great coach. Look for:

  • 5+ years of full-time training experience
  • A portfolio of long-term clients (not just before/after photos)
  • Specific experience with your goal (fat loss, strength, post-injury, prenatal, etc.)

2. Make Sure They Coach, Not Just Count Reps

The best trainers teach you how to move better, eat better, and recover better. If your trainer can’t explain why you’re doing each exercise, find a new one.

3. Check the Programming

Random workouts get random results. Ask: “Do you write me a written program that progresses over weeks and months?” The answer should be yes.

4. Look at the Environment
